    PRE OPERATIVE CHECKS A careful check of the following must be carried out everytime before riding and especially after long periods of storage to determine if additional maintenance is necessary. 1. Adequate fuel in the tank. 2. Free play and smoothness of all operating cables. 3.

    RUNNING IN Proper running-in is very important for obtaining maximum life and performance of a new motorcycle. The following guidelines explain proper running-in procedures. This will help the various parts of the engine and vehicle to "bed in" smoothly with prolonged full throttle operation, or in high speed conditions might result in excessive heating of the engine and cause abnormal wear of the moving parts and result in premature failure.
  • Page 34 Avoid prolonged full-throttle operation. Vary speed occasionally. CAUTION Royal Enfield engines are air-cooled and consequently require forced air cooling over the cylinders and heads to maintain proper operating temperature. Extended periods of idling may over heat the engine, resulting in serious engine damage.
