Develop a consistent naming strategy for your points.
If you have controllers other than Process Controllers, you need to understand
the purpose and capabilities of Experion's inbuilt point types (called standard
points).
Experion includes a number of high-level interfaces—called system
interfaces—that allow it to exchange data with other applications or subsystems
without the need for separately defining points.
Determine whether you need to use any algorithms.
Determine whether you can use server scripts to perform specialized tasks on
points.
Determine your history collection requirements.
Determine which points need to be grouped and displayed together.
Determine which point parameters need to be displayed in a graphical manner.
Develop an appropriate scanning strategy. (Scanning is the process by which
the server reads from/writes to memory locations in controllers other than
Process Controllers.)
Estimate the number of points you require—the number determines your
licensing requirements.
If you have multiple servers, review information on point data in a DSA
system.
