    7.5 Mouse Controls Use the mouse to access the Main Menu, Command & Feature buttons, and to use the on-screen Keyboard. LEFT BUTTON From the Live View screen, double click on a Channel (Camera) to view in full screen. Click again to return to the multi view screen.

    START UP 8.1 Device Initialization (Login Setup) PASSWORD CREATION During the initial setup of the system you will need to setup a Password. The default password is admin. Follow the on-screen instructions to set a password that is easier for you to remember but hard for others to guess. The system will show a password strength indicator to show you how effective your password is.

    8.2 Startup Wizard The Setup Wizard is designed to make starting your system quick and easy. By default, when the system is powered on for the first time the Setup Wizard will launch automatically. Advanced settings are available from 10 Main Menu & Advanced Setup the Main Menu if additional setup is required.
  • Page 13 Overwrite – the system will continue to record over the oldest footage when the hard drive is full Stop Recording – the system will stop recording until space is made available on the hard drive Pack Duration: This is the length of each video file when footage is saved to a USB drive. Motion events shorter than the pack duration are not affected when playback is selected.
  • Page 14 Date & Time Tab Date Format: Use the drop down to select the date format. This is how the date will appear on-screen. Time Format: Select the Clock format using the drop down to select 24 hour or 12 hour clock. Date Separator: Select the format for how the Year, Month, and Day will be separated using the drop down to select from the options.

    Holiday Tab You can setup breaks in the recording schedule using the Holiday feature. When a holiday is setup the system will stop recording during the dates entered and will resume when the holiday is over. Holidays will override the regular Schedule setup. Holiday List: HOLIDAY LIST: Name of the holiday (example: Weekdays)

Holiday Range: Click Date or Week to enter/select the duration of the holiday: Date Enter the Start/End dates for the holiday. Week Allows you to select the Start/End year, Month, Day, and Recurrence for the holiday. Add More: If selected the Add Holiday screen will remain when Add is selected to allow you to enter another holiday.

    DECODER BUFFER: This is assigned to ensure that an encoded video stream can be correctly buffered. This setting does not need to be changed and should be left as Default. CHANNEL: Click the drop down to select the position assigned to the camera which is where the camera will appear on the Live View screen.

  • Page 22 Snapshot Tab The Snapshot Schedule works the same way as the Recording Schedule. The difference is that the system will take a snapshot of what is visible on the Channel (Camera) at the times set up in the schedule or when Motion is detected. FINISH At the end of the Setup Wizard a Message window will appear confirming that you have completed all the steps.

    9.1 Features Live View is the main screen where you can view all cameras, access the Playback screen, and access the Main Menu. This view can also be accessed from your mobile device. See the Defender SmartSignal Manual for details.

  • Page 26 10 MAIN MENU & ADVANCED SETUP This section provides details about the Main Menu and more details about setup, backup, upgrades, etc. When navigating the screen there are commonly used command buttons: Click to change back to the default settings on the screen. Any custom settings will be lost. Click to refresh the screen when changes have been entered.

    Select Auto to allow the system to use the default resolution setting as the 1 choice when bandwidth availability is high. This will stream 2K resolution. SUB STREAM: Select Auto to allow the system to use the default resolution setting as a 2 choice when bandwidth availability is low.

    10.1 Operation Menu SEARCH is covered in Live View – see section 9.2 for details. BACKUP Detect backup device and backup recorded data. This requires a USB drive to have the backup saved on.   • Page 31 10.2 Info Menu SYSTEM Displays HDD, BPS, record, and version information. Review the status of the hard drive status (space available). RECORD Review the list of recordings on the hard drive. View the Bitrate or bits per second. This represents the performance of your Camera connection.

    NETWORK View online users, network load, network test information. ONLINE USERS Lists all mobile app users and allows you to Block access to your account. All uses will be listed with their IP Address and the date they last logged into the system. Click Block to stop a user from accessing your account from the mobile app and NVR login.

Type: Select the Channel (Camera) to be included in the log (1, 2, 3, 4, All). Search: Click to return the list of events for the date range and channel selected.

Video is encoded to meet proper formats and specifications for recording and playback through the use of video encoder software. Channel: Click the drop down to select a Channel (Camera). Code-Stream Type: Click the drop down to select from the options: Regular, MD (motion detection) or Alarm.
  • Page 37 Overlay Tab Overlays are the labels that appear on the Live View screen (example: Channel (Camera) name and Time). Channel: Click the drop down to select a Channel (Camera). Time Display: When the checkbox is selected the Time will display on the Live View screen. Click Setting and the view screen will open to allow you click and drag the time label where you would like it to appear.

CONNECTION Your Connection setting are automatically applied based on the network and Internet connection. These settings do not need to be changed.

    Default: Click to change the settings back to default. Save: Click to apply your changes. Cancel: Click to exit the screen without saving your changes.     Motion Detect settings allow you to select how the system will react when motion is detected on selected or all Channels (Cameras). PTZ and Tour features required a PTZ camera – not included in Defender® kits. Channel: Click to select the Channel (Camera) for setup.
  • Page 45 Threshold: Determines how much motion is required to trigger an event – if the amount of motion exceeds the threshold and event will occur. Recommended threshold setting is between 10 and 50. Right click when all regions are setup to return to the previous screen. We recommend having a second person walk in front of the camera to test the settings.

    11 CAMERA INSTALLATION Test all cameras during setup before installing. Determine all areas you want to cover and plan out where each camera should be installed. Make sure there is access to power outlets where the cameras will be installed. Place cameras up high to ensure the camera view covers the maximum area.

    12 CAMERA RESET If your camera will not connect or has lost connection and will not pair, you will need to reset it. The camera reset is on the bottom of the camera behind the lower cover. To remove the cover, you will need a small Philips head screw driver.
