    This manual contains information that describes installation, operation, and maintenance procedures for the 125W C-Band rack-mount (indoors) Solid State Power Amplifier model ARMA-C125-CRM. Because specialized training is required for some phases of installation and operation, certain parts of this manual are directed only to trained personnel. Warnings appear at the appropriate points to caution all users of potential RF and high-voltage hazards.

    4.1 D ESCRIPTION The ARMA-C125-CRM is a 125 Watt solid state power amplifier (SSPA). The SSPA incorporates a DC main power supply and a forced air cooling system. The SSPA features an RS-485 interface that provides full remote monitor and control of selected functions. A product outline drawing of the amplifier is shown in Figure 1 at page 11and a functional block diagram is shown in Figure 2 at page 15.

    ARMA-C125-CRM 5. UNPACKING AND INSTALLATION 5.1 I NSTALLATION ONSIDERATIONS 1. It is recommended that the amplifier should be installed in a rack. 2. Regardless of the installation position, ensure that there is a clearance of at least 12 inches (30 cm) between the air intake/exhaust (back of the unit) and any surface which may obstruct the air-flow.

    ARMA-C125-CRM 6. OPERATION 6.1 I NTRODUCTION The amplifier may be operated via the RS-485 serial interface, discrete interface or from the front panel controls and display. All methods provide full access to the unit functions including system monitoring of all key operating parameters, control of output power and of amplifier operational status.

    ARMA-C125-CRM 6.3 R EMOTE NTERFACE 6.3.1 R EMOTE UP AND IRING NSTRUCTIONS The standard SSPA is using an RS-485 serial interface. The communication software is provided ® for the standard IBM compatible personal computer (running DOS 3.1 or higher) with an RS- 232 serial port.

    ARMA-C125-CRM 6.4 D ISCRETE NTERFACE The discrete interface provides all the necessary functions to monitor and control the amplifier. The unit provides open collectors for continuous monitoring alarms, faults, amplifier status and amplifier enable/disable switching. Figure 8 at page 30 provides the detailed circuit information required to use the above features.

    ARMA-C125-CRM 7. CONFIGURATION AND SET-UP 7.1 S OFTWARE ONFIGURATION The program ADV.EXE is located on the diskette delivered with this amplifier. To use the software, first copy ADV.EXE to your hard disk. 1. To execute the program, at the DOS prompt type ADV.

The POWER ON LED (green) will light and a message will appear on the front panel display indicating that the unit is performing self-diagnostics. If everything is OK, a second message will appear identifying the model number of the unit.

Accordingly, a calibration chart is provided via the front panel display for each sample port. The calibration chart for the port identifies the coupling loss at a number of frequencies across the operating range of the amplifier.

Two LED indicators on the amplifier identify ALARM and FAULT conditions respectively.
