    ELECTRICAL DOUBLE INSULATION Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, which eliminates the need for the usual three-wire grounded power cord. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the internal metal motor components with protect- ing insulation. Double insulated tools do not need to be grounded.

    SPEED SELECTOR There is a speed selector on the side of the drill for three speeds: HIGH, MEDIUM and LOW. THREE POSITION BAIL HANDLE This drill is equipped with a bail handle that can be adjusted to three different operating positions.

    Unplug the drill. n Insert the chuck key provided and twist counterclock- wise. n Insert the drill bit into the chuck the full length of the jaws. WARNING: Do not insert drill bit into chuck jaws and tighten as shown in figure 4.

    OPERATION WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict severe injury. WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating tools. Failure to do so could result in objects being thrown into your eyes resulting in possible serious injury.

    Release the switch trigger and allow the drill to stop before changing direction. SPEED SELECTOR See Figure 7. The speed of the drill can be changed by turning the speed selector to LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH. This drill features three speed settings for various applications: n LOW (1) Speed (300/min.)

    MEDIUM (2) HIGH (3) - Low torque applications NOTE: Always use the drill in LOW (1) speed when high torque is needed. Do not use HIGH (3) Speed for a high torque job. BIT BINDING See Figure 8. If the bit binds, the drill will suddenly react in the opposite direction of the rotation of the bit.
  • Page 14 Be sure the material to be drilled is secure and will not move as the drill bit rotates. n Plug the drill into power supply source. n Hold the drill firmly and place the bit at the point to be drilled. WARNING: To avoid loss of control or serious personal injury, always use both hands when operating this tool.

    MAINTENANCE WARNING: When servicing use only iden ti cal RIDGID replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power tool operation or when blowing dust.

    Open chuck jaws using the provided chuck key. n Insert a 3/8 in. or larger hex key wrench into the chuck of the drill and tighten the chuck jaws se cure ly. n Tap the hex key wrench sharply with a mallet in a clock- wise direction.
