Chain Lubrication

Lubrication is necessary every 200 miles
(300 kms) and also after riding in wet
weather, on wet roads, or any time that the
chain appears dry.
Use
the
special
chain
recommended in the Specification section.
Apply lubricant to the sides of the
rollers. This will allow the oil to
penetrate to the chain rollers and
bushes. Also apply oil to the chain
'X' rings. Wipe off any excess oil.
If the chain is especially dirty, clean
first using paraffin and then apply
lubricant as mentioned above.
Caution
Do not use a power 'jet' wash to clean the
chain as this may cause damage to the
chain components.

Inspection
Support the motorcycle on a firm,
level surface with the side stand.
Rotate the rear wheel to find the
position where the chain is tightest,
and measure the vertical movement
of the chain midway between the
sprockets.
For Thruxton and Scrambler the
vertical movement of the drive chain
must be 30 - 40 mm.
For all other models the vertical
movement of the drive chain must
be 15 - 30 mm.
