device and must never be used as
a swimming aid or for any other purpose
than as quoted in [i].
iii. It is the end user's responsibility
to ensure that the instructions on the
following pages are followed, that
fastening devices are tightened correctly
and checked regularly throughout the
journey, that loads are within the limitations
listed, are secured correctly and safely,
spread evenly and that all equipment
is maintained in good order.
iv. When fitting the HandiRack

to the
roof of a vehicle, make sure that the roof
is clean and dry. Fitting the HandiRack

to a soiled or unclean roof may result in
unwanted marking of the paintwork.
v. The HandiRack
has been designed
®
as a temporary roof load carrying system
and should not be left fitted to the vehicle
when not in use.
vi. Take care to ensure that your load

Using the HandiRack
in Wet Conditions
In wet conditions on certain models of cars,
it is possible that rainwater could enter the
vehicle where the 'V' section breaks the
door seal. To avoid this, fold the 'V' section
under the racks and fasten at the Velcro
points,[15] allowing only the fitting straps
to pass inside the door. Do not leave the

Additional Instructions
• The total weight of your load should
not exceed 80kg and we strongly

owner's manual as the manufacturer's
recommended maximum load for the
®
vehicle's roof may be less.
• The load should be evenly distributed
over the area of both the racks and the
centre of gravity of the load kept as low
as possible. Loads that overhang at the
ends of the load carrying system should
conform to any laws or by-laws in force
and should be adequately secured.
• Loads should be secured using
HandiStraps
heavy duty tie-downs. After loading,
re-check the security of the load and the
racks regularly throughout the journey.
• As the HandiRack
conditions it is advisable to allow for the
air within the tubes to expand a little.
In colder conditions the opposite is the
case. During the course of a journey,

• Where items of equipment are being
carried that may induce lifting forces
(surfboards, sail boards, ladders etc.)
they should not be carried side by side,
but should be carried stacked one upon
the other.
All of these types of equipment should
be secured independently to the front
fitted to a parked vehicle in
and rear of the vehicle using tie-down
straps that are capable of withstanding
the lifting forces [16].
• When a load is carried on the roof
of a vehicle, it will change the vehicle's
handling characteristics, notably its
susceptibility to side winds and its
behaviour on bends and when braking.
It is recommended that you drive
with more care. Reduce your speed
and allow for longer braking distances.
• If your vehicle is fitted with roof rails,
ensure that the HandiRack
under those bars.
• The HandiRack
removed, deflated and properly stored
