Rear Window Replacement
NOTE:
. Put on gloves to protect your hands.
. Wear eye protection while cutting the glass adhesive
w i t h p i a n o w i r e .
. Use seat covers to avoid damaging any surfaces.
. Do not damage the rear window defogger grid lines
a n d t e r m i n a l s .
1 . Remove these items:
. Hatch lower trim panel (see page 20-53)
. Hatch spoiler (see page 20-99)
Remove these items:
. High mount brake light {see page 22-821
. Rear window wiper motor {see page 22-1461
Disconnect the rear window defogger connectors
(A).
4 . lf the old rear window is to be reinstalled, make
alignment marks across the glass and body with a
g r e a s e p e n c r l ,
Apply protective tape along the inside and outside
e d g e s o f t h e h a t c h . U s i n g a n a w l , m a k e a h o l e
t h r o u g h t h e a d h e s i v e f r o m i n s i d e t h e v e h i c l e a t t h e
corner portion of the rearwindow. Push the piano
w i r e t h r o u g h t h e h o l e , a n d w r a p e a c h e n d a r o u n d a
piece of wood,
6. With a helper on the outside, pull the piano wire (A)
back and Jorth in a sawing motion. Hold the piano
wire as close to the rear window (B) as possible to
prevent damage to the hatch, and carefully cut
t h r o u g h t h e a d h e s i v e { C } a r o u n d t h e e n t i r e r e a r
Cutting positions:
7 . C a r e f u l l y r e m o v e t h e r e a r w i n d o w .
