EFINITIONS
Definition
Ethernet is a family of frame-based computer networking
technologies for local area networks (LANs). It defines a
number of wiring and signaling standards for the physical
layer, through means of network access at the Media Access
Control (MAC)/Data Link Layer and a common addressing
format.
Gateway (computer networking), a node that serves as an
entrance to another network and vice versa.
The global digital network.
A unique address that certain electronic devices use in order
to identify and communicate with each other on a computer
network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard (IP) – in
simpler terms, a computer address.
A worldwide unique physical address required for all
equipment on the internet.
Medium Dependent Interface Crossover
Non-Volatile Random Access Memory describes any type of
random access memory which does not lose its information
when power is turned off.
Power over Ethernet describes a system to transmit
electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over
standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network.
Port VLAN Identifier is the per-port value to be used for
applying VID assignments to untagged frames, during the
ingress process. PVID initially reflects the default VLAN
value, for all ports.
