(Continued) DENSITY4/5 Introduction The DENSITY4/5 is the new density meter available from Reichert and designed for fast and reliable measurement of relative density and concentration of fluid samples. It is designed for continuous density measurement in a broad range of applications and has a sealed measurement system with the flexibility to measure the density for many fluids.
P reference Oscillating U-Tube The DENSITY4/5 has a built-in reference oscillating U-Tube, which is a new method of measuring density. Approximately 1.0 ml of sample is needed for a measurement and the device offers very high accuracy and resolution. Working with an oscillating U-Tube is ultra fast compared to other methods and true density is provided in the measurement.

Instrument Setup (continued) Setting Up the DENSITY4/5 (continued) Connecting DENSITY4/5 Sample Supply Screw one side of the Connection Hose Density PTFE into one inlet of the Sample Supply. Screw the Out- let Hose PTFE into the other inlet. NOTE: Always use the same inlet for waste and the same inlet for samples to avoid contamination.
After a measurement you should clean the sample compartment of the DENSITY4/5. • Connect the syringe to the DENSITY4/5 as shown above and flush it with distilled water. • After flushing it with water, blow filtered air into the tubing that goes to the sample compartment to dry the compartment and remove any contaminants.

Instrument Setup (continued) Setting Up the DENSITY4/5 (continued) Connecting Air Pump (continued) Now connect the delivered Connection Hose Compressed Air and the Luer Adapter female as indicated below. Figure SU-09, Clean with Dry Air Ensure that the open end of the hose from the outlet of the sample compartment is put into the Glass Cyl- inder (~ 130ml) for collecting unwanted fluid and contaminants.
(continued) Connecting Reichert Universal Display to the DENSITY4/5 Connect one end of the 9 pin Reichert Serial Connector Cable to the serial port of the DENSITY4/5. Figure SU-10, DENSITY4/5 with Universal Display Connect the other end of the 9-pin Reichert Serial Connector Cable to the serial port of your Universal Display.
After turned on, the DENSITY4/5 automatically performs a brief self test. The process of the start-up pro- cedure is shown graphically on the display. If this is your first use of the DENSITY4/5 you are directed to the main screen.
(continued) Keyboards In different menus of the DENSITY4/5 you will need to type various names, passwords or numbers. On the left you can see the default keyboard with capital letters. By pressing the abc button the keyboard changes to small letters. If you press the 123 button you are reaching a keyboard with numbers and some of the most important special characters, that you can see on the picture in the middle.

(continued) Main Menu At the main menu you can change all important settings of your Reichert DENSITY4/5. It is possible to generally configure your device, calibrate it or add custom scales. All menus and submenus will be ex- plained on the following pages.
DO NOT DISCONNECT INPUT POWER OR SET THE DENSITY4/5 TO OFF DURING THE CALIBRATION OR DAMAGE TO THE INSTRUMENT OR SOFTWARE MAY OCCUR. Sometimes you need to (re-)calibrate the touchscreen of your DENSITY4/5. Follow the steps be- low to calibrate: 1.
(continued) Zeroing At least once a week you have to set your DENSITY4/5 to zero. Always set the DENSITY4/5 to zero with the temperature you want to achieve higher stability. First select the target temperature as usual. Always set your device to zero with water and air, so do both calibrations after another. To make the unit zero correctly on your DENSITY4/5 follow the steps listed below: 4.
(continued) Measurement After starting your DENSITY4/5, you will be at the main screen. Please remember the advised warm-up time is 30 minutes! After the unit is warmed up, to start a measurement just press the green Start button. Every decimal place in black is stable, grey numbers are still in the measuring process or just showing the measuring resolution.

If you measure similar samples in sequence and the samples can be easily removed from the measuring cell, it is not required to rinse the DENSITY4/5 after each measurement. In this case a careful rinsing pro- cedure using adequate purifiers must take place after the measurement sequence.
The best way to inspect the device is to remove it from the power supply. It is advised to clean the device after removing. If any deviations are higher than the specified values, please contact the Reichert – cus- tomer service.
If notified promptly in writing of any action brought against the purchaser based on a claim that the instru- ment infringes a U.S. patent, Reichert will defend such action at its expense and will pay costs and damages awarded any such action, provided that Reichert shall have sole control of the defense of any such action with information and assistance (at Reichert’s expense) for such defense, and of all negotiation for the settlement...
