    2. Safety Instructions 2.1 Overview These sa fety instructions are required by law . They pro mote workplace safety an d accident p revention. According to ANSI Z535.6 the follwowing signal words are used in this document: DANGER indicates a hazardo us situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

    4. Functional description and device compo- sition 4.1 Mode of Operation The Hygro Matik steam humidifier utilizes th e con ductivity nor- mally pre sent in t ap water for steam production . Electr odes inside an enclosed steam cylinder are immersed directly into the tap water.

If this co ntin- ues, conductivity may increase until a short circuit occurs. This could dama ge the unit, but in any case wo uld significan tly reduce the life span of the electrodes.

    5.2 Fan Units (Options) Please note The fan units should be positioned in a way that avoids drafts. In general, a minimum height of 6 ft 7 in (2 m) above floor is suffi- cient. Install the fan unit directly on a wall. Risk of skin burning! During operation and for some time afterwards the steam noz- zles are hot!

    5.2.2 Fan Unit Cover Covers for humidifier types HY05 and HY30 are optionally avail- able to protect th e steam and condensate hoses between the steam humidifier and the fan unit. The vertical distance between the humidifier and the fan unit is determined by the height of the cover (see table of dimensions, H).

    5.3 Absorption Distance B The "ab sorption d istance" (B ) is defined as th e dist ance from the steam feed to where the steam is completely absorbed in the treated air. W ithin the ab sorption d istance, steam is visible as mist in the air stream.

    7.3 Safety Interlock Please note Install contact interlocks, i.e. max. hygrost at, vane relay, pres- sure controller , a ir inte rlock, etc. in series acro ss te rminals 1 and 2. Use max.-thermostat for protection! A max-hygrostat should be installed in th e safety interlo ck. The max-hygrostat acts as a safety device in case the humidity sen- sor malfunctions.

    8. Commissioning Start-up of the unit is restricted to qualified personnel only! Only trained and qualified people that h ave read and fully un derstood this operating manual and the safety instructions included may put the steam humidifier into operation. Steam generator switch-off procedure must be well known! Before st arting-up the uni t the position and ha ndling o f a ll co ntrols involved in switching-of f the unit must be identified and familiarized...

    9. Maintenance The HygroMatik steam humidifier is easy to maint ain. However, inadequate or improper main tenance can le ad to o perational malfunctions. Perform regular mainte nance to give your u nit a long life span. The unit is only to be serviced by qualified, authorized per- sonnel! All safety instructions must be observed.
