Driving safety systems
BAS
BAS operates in emergency braking situa-
tions. If you depress the brake pedal quick-
ly, BAS automatically boosts the braking
force and thus shortens the stopping dis-
tance.
Keep the brake pedal depressed firmly
until the emergency braking situation is
over.
ABS prevents the wheels from locking.
The brakes will function as usual once you
release the brake pedal. BAS is deactivat-
ed.
G
Risk of accident
If BAS is faulty, the braking system remains
available with full brake boosting effect.
However, braking force is not automatically
increased in emergency braking situations
and the stopping distance may increase.

BAS Plus*
BAS Plus intervenes in emergency braking
situations and uses radar sensor technolo-
gy to assess the traffic situation.
If the driver depresses the brake pedal
rapidly in an emergency braking situation,
BAS Plus automatically adjusts the brake
pressure to a level suitable for the traffic
situation.
®
PRE-SAFE
is activated simultaneously if
BAS Plus requests a particularly high brak-
ing pressure.
Keep the brake pedal depressed until
the emergency situation is over.
ABS prevents the wheels from locking.
The brakes will function as usual again
once you release the brake pedal or if
there is no longer a risk of a frontal colli-
sion. BAS Plus is deactivated.

Adaptive brake lamps

If you brake sharply at a speed above
50 km/h or brake with the support of BAS
or BAS Plus*, the brake lamps flash at rap-
id intervals to warn vehicles behind.
Nur fuer internen Gebrauch
If you brake sharply at a speed above
70 km/h and bring the vehicle to a halt,
the brake lamps flash at rapid intervals un-
til the vehicle comes to a standstill. When
the vehicle has come to a standstill, the
brake lamps flash continuously and the
hazard warning lamps are switched on at
the same time. The hazard warning lamps
are switched off when you reach a speed of
10 km/h.

ESP
®
ESP
monitors the driving stability and the
traction, i.e. transfer of power from the
tyres to the road surface.
®
ESP
detects when a wheel spins or the ve-
®
hicle enters a skid. ESP
stabilises the ve-
hicle by braking individual wheels, limiting
the engine power output, and assists you
when pulling away on a wet or slippery
®
road surface. ESP
also stabilises the vehi-
cle when braking.
