STARTING THE ENGINE

Troubleshooting Starting Problems

SYMPTOM
The engine does not start.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Emergency stop switch clip is not engaged.
Throttle grip is not in the START position.
Out of fuel.
Fuel valve is not opened.
Fuel filler cap vent knob not open.
Fuel is not reaching the carburetor.
Engine flooded.
Plug cap is not installed properly.
REMEDY
Engage the emergency stop switch clip. (page
29)
Move the throttle grip to the START position.

Supply fuel. (page 24)
Move the fuel valve lever to the ON position.
(page 28)
Open fuel filler cap vent knob. (page 28)
Loosen the carburetor drain screw to see if
there is fuel in the carburetor float bowl. (page
62)
Clean and dry spark plug. (page 55)
Install plug cap securely. (page 56)
