9. PROTECTIVE DEVICES

a) Protection against wrong polarity

The charger is protected against wrong polarity. If the charger is connected to a mains socket and a rechargeable
battery is connected with the wrong polarity, the red LED for "Fault" will flash (fig. 4, item 9). Check the polarity of the
rechargeable battery and the connection cable.

b) Fault display

The charger continually monitors charging. If no charging programme is selected with the Mode button, if a defective
connection of the charge cables is recognised or if a defective rechargeable battery is found in charging steps 1, 2
or 5, the electronic system discontinues charging. The device is then in standby mode and the LED "Fault" (fig. 4,
item 9) will flash.

c) Spark protection

The charger is still deactivated when it is connected to a rechargeable battery. Therefore, there will be no sparks
from charge balancing when connecting the charger to the rechargeable battery, contrary to conventional chargers.
The charging condition of the rechargeable battery is checked first after connection. Charging will only start auto-
matically after this inspection of the already-connected rechargeable battery.

d) Housing protection category

The charger housing has protection type IP 65 and thus serves to protect the charging electronics integrated in
the housing from dust and moisture. The plug and connections do not correspond to this standard. Therefore, the
charger is approved only for use in dry, closed indoor rooms.
