a) Polarity reversal protection

The charger has an integral reverse polarity protection. If a battery is connected with the wrong polarity, the LED
with the exclamation mark (14) is illuminated. In this case, check the polarity of battery and connection cable.

b) Error detection

The charger continuously monitors the charging process. If a defective battery, battery voltage too low or too high,
charging duration too long (more than seven hours during the reactivation programme or more than forty-one hours
during a charging programme) or a short-circuit is detected, the electronic system switches the charger off. The
device is then in standby mode (only the LED POWER (1) is illuminated).

c) Anti-spark protection

The charger is still deactivated during connection to a battery. Therefore, unlike with conventional chargers, sparks
do not normally form due to a charge equalization when the charger is being connected to the battery. After the
connection, the charge state of the battery is checked first. Only after this test of the already connected battery does
the charging process start automatically.

d) Overheating protection

An overheating protection is built into the charger, which reduces the charging current automatically if the tempera-
ture in the charger is too high. When the internal temperature has dropped again, the charging process continues
completely normally.

e) Battery temperature monitoring

The charger has a temperature compensation that protects the connected battery from overheating. The tempera-
ture sensor at the battery detects an increased battery temperature and automatically reduces the charging voltage
until the battery temperature has normalised again. During this process, the temperature monitoring LED (13) is
illuminated.
If the battery temperature is too low, the temperature monitoring LED (13) is also illuminated. In this case, one of the
two programmes for charging in cold conditions (mode 2 or mode 5) should be used to charge the battery.

f) housing protection type

The housing of the charger is Protection Type IP44 and thus serves to protect the charging electronics built into the
housing against dust and moisture. The plugs and connections do not meet this standard. The charger is therefore
approved for operation in dry, closed rooms only.
