F. What is the plug-in for?
A. The plug-in provided by the video server is used for showing film pictures in the Internet Explorer. If your system
does not permit the installation of plug-in software, reduce the security level of the web browser. Consult your
network administrator in your company about reducing the security level.
F. Why is there a difference between the timestamp and the system time of the PC/notebook?
A. The timestamp is based on the system time of the video server. This is supplied by an internal realtime clock and
can automatically be synchronised with the time server if the video server is connected to the Internet and the
function is enabled. Differences of an hour or more are caused by the time zone setting.
F. Why is the picture not refreshed regularly?
A. If you use a modem, the bandwidth of the PPP connection is much less that with an Ethernet connection. If the
timestamp difference is unstable, reduce the UART FIFO for reception and transmission under Modem Properties in
the Control Panel. If you use the Ethernet, the reason may be the length of time required to store snapshots in
memory after an event occurs.
F. How does the video server detect the supported PTZ cameras automatically?
A. If no camera is detected, the video server monitors the CTS of the camera control cable continuously. If the CTS
are detected, the video server attempts to make a handshake with the supported cameras until a supported camera
is found. After a PTZ camera is detected, no further camera is detected.
F. How many users can watch the video simultaneously?
A. The number of users is basically unlimited. However, the video quality also depends on the network bandwidth.
To get the best effect, the video server permits connection of more than one user. You should install another web
server to permit a larger number of users to retrieve the pictures from the video server.
F. How fast is the video rate of the video server?
A. The MPEG4 Codec can internally process 30 frames a second. However, the overall quality depends on various
coefficients, as follows:
1. Data throughput in the network
2. Shared bandwidth
3. Number of users
4. Detailed objects result in larger image files.
5. The processor performance of your PC or notebook, which is responsible for displaying the
pictures.
The transmission rate of a normal local network can be over 200 kilobytes per second and approximately 10 to 20
frames per second.
F. How can the video server be kept as private as possible?
A. The video server was developed for surveillance purposes and has many flexible interfaces. User authentication
and special confirmation during installation can prevent unauthorised access to the video server. You can also
change the HTTP port to a non-public number. Check the system log for abnormal activities and their causes.
F. How can a PTZ camera be controlled if it is not listed with the supported devices?
A. The video server offers a command interface to control non-supported cameras. See the manual for details.
Make sure that the settings of the COM port are used for the camera specifications. The camera control cable
supplied is listed in the scope of delivery. If necessary, prepare your own cable. The general PTZ command consists
of a start command and a stop command. When entering the two commands in the respective field of the
configuration page, separate the commands by a comma.
Each comma stands for 200 milliseconds. If the user has his or her own serial control devices apart from the PTZ
camera, a special URL is provided for sending the required commands. For fast access, the URL must be integrated
in another homepage on your won web server.
