  • Page 6: Hardware Installation

Hardware installation Make sure that all accessories and articles listed above are present in the scope of delivery. Depending on application, an Ethernet cable may be required. This Ethernet cable must meet the specifications of UTP Category 5 (CAT 5) and must not be longer than 100 meters. Front BNC video input The video port with 75-Ohm resistor is used for connecting an analogue camera.
  • Page 7 Rear To prevent the risk of electric shock, first connect the socket of the transformer to the video server before inserting the transformer into the mains socket. Ethernet 10/100 socket Use a UTP category 5 (CAT 5) cable not longer than 100 meters to connect to the Ethernet. When the Ethernet cable is correctly connected, the video server uses the Ethernet interface, regardless of any modem connection.
  • Page 8 The video server has a very flexible, general I/O interface to make it compatible with the user’s security equipment such as sensors, alarm systems, lighting or door locks. The general I/O terminal block has 6 pins for device control. These are divided into two categories according to their functions. If the device connected to COM has an RS485 interface, connect two control lines to pin 5 and pin 6.
  • Page 9 Resetting system settings In the opening next to the I/O terminal block is a button. Press this button to reset the system or restore the factory parameter settings. If the system cannot be not installed or is not working normally, use the pointer supplied and follow these instructions for restoring the initial (factory) status of the system.

First access to video server Setting the IP address To set the IP address of the camera: Use a network cable to connect the video server to your computer network. (The simplest way is to connect the video server direct to your PC using a cross-link cable.) If your PC is not yet integrated into a network, you first have to configure it for the network application.

  • Page 16: System Configuration

System configuration Two methods are available for configuration. The web interface offers a simple and clear application option, whereas the FTP with the script file is suitable for mass installation. Access to system configuration is reserved for the administrator only. The administrator can enter the URL in the figure below to jump direct to the configuration page. If (as administrator) you want to set options via the URL, refer to the section about the extended application.

  • Page 19: Smtp

The video server acts not only as server but also activates the connection to external servers in order to transfer messages or snapshots. Following a reboot of the video server, a system log is sent to notify the administrator. Even if a modem is used, the video server sends a connection log when it dials the number of an ISP or an external server.

This timestamp is supplied by the integrated realtime clock of the video server. This settings is independent of the connected camera;...
  • Page 24 The TV7202 uses MPEG4 Codec compression as the best streaming solution. The size of the compressed video data is much less than with JPEG. However, this depends on the picture change between two consecutive pictures. Three parameters are available for this setting.
  • Page 25: Motion Sensor

Motion sensor The video server allows the administrator to define a maximum of three areas for motion detection. To monitor a particular section of the picture, click to add a window. The name entered under appears at the top of the window frame. To resize the window or move the title bar, click the window frame, keep the mouse button pressed and drag the window to the required size.
  • Page 26: Camera Control

Camera control Since you can use the video server both in the Ethernet and in the PPP network, you can use the serial port for controlling the external COM-port devices such as a PTZ camera or a modem. In the PPP interface, go to the modem page to configure it.

After moving the camera to the desired position, enter the position name and click If you enter invalid characters in the position, a warning message appears. To delete a defined position, open the position list, mark a position name and click...
  • Page 28 The video server offers five further user-defined commands apart from pan, tilt and zoom. The administrator can click to configure functions. Enter the in ASCII format. The video server converts these into binary code and sends them via the serial port. For example, the string “8101ABCDEF” is converted into five hexadecimal bytes: 81, 01, AB, CD and EF.

  • Page 30: Modem

Modem In the PPP interface, there is a modem option instead of a camera control. The configurations consist of modem initialisation and the external communications servers. If the user wants to use the alarm input and output and send e-mails automatically, enable is not enabled, the video server sends no snapshots if an event occurs.
  • Page 31: Application

On the basis of the alarm inputs and outputs, you can send snapshots via e-mail. In this case, the video server needs a network connection and then automatically dials the number of the preconfigured external server. If connection is successful, the video server sends a connection protocol to inform about the existing network settings. When installing the network interface between Ethernet and PPP , the administrator should note that the settings of the FTP and SMTP servers may differ from those of the present Ethernet environment.
  • Page 32 is disabled, the file is overwritten by the newest snapshot. There are two methods for uploading snapshots. If you enable , snapshots are sent continuously at configurable intervals over a configurable period. If FTP put snapshot with date and time suffix is disabled, the video server can use FTP for uploading and overwriting the snapshot files.
  • Page 33: Homepage Layout

Homepage layout The administrator can assign a new homepage to the video server. You can hide the logo in the top left corner of the homepage. You can localise the default logo or any other graphic from the Internet via the URL. The background graphic in the system memory is quickly accessible but restricted by the memory size.
  • Page 34: Factory Settings

Factory settings All your settings are reset to the factory settings. After you click and confirm again, the system is restarted. The installation program prompts you to install the network again. Deleting the data path for owner commands The video server offers support for user-defined control for devices with serial interfaces. Using URL commands in ASCII format, you can also address the serial port of the video server via your own homepage.
  • Page 35: Uploading The Configuration File

Uploading the configuration file To update the configuration of the video server in a single work-step, upload the precisely formatted batch file to CONFIG.INI. You should keep the original format and change only the parameters. For details and optional parameters, see the Configuration section. After the file has been received and checked, the video server updates the configuration and reboots automatically.

Deleting the logo and the graphics If you enter “erase graph”, all graphics used on the homepage are deleted. If no new graphics are uploaded, the system switches to text mode and uses the default graphics instead.
  • Page 38: Modem Environment

Modem environment Hardware installation Before installing the video server, make a note of the device serial numbers. To use a communication network, the video server must not be connected to the Internet. The Ethernet is selected as first priority among the available interfaces. After you switch on, the video server finds out whether external modems are connected to the modem port.
  • Page 39: Software Installation

Switching on Make sure that all cables are correctly connected before switching on the video server. Since most automatic hardware detection takes place at system start, the video server must be switched on after all peripherals have been switched on and are operational. To avoid the risk of electric shock, first connect the video server to the transformer before plugging the transformer into the 220/230V mains supply.

Appendix A. Self-test Following switch-on, the video server runs a diagnostic self-test to detect potential hardware faults. As the self-test continues, the LEDs flash alternately until the test is finished or until a serious error occurs. The following table lists possible serious errors with their patterns. If the self-test reveals no errors, the two LEDs switch off briefly and then light according to the selected interface.
  • Page 57 F. What is the plug-in for? A. The plug-in provided by the video server is used for showing film pictures in the Internet Explorer. If your system does not permit the installation of plug-in software, reduce the security level of the web browser. Consult your network administrator in your company about reducing the security level.
  • Page 58: Technical Data

    F. How fast can the video server check the state of the digital inputs? A. The video server checks the input state in less than half a second. However, to avoid repeated checks and ensure correct functioning of the digital outputs, the video server waits 3 seconds. You can modify this according to your own specific applications.
