To reset the unit, you need a straightened paper clip:

When using the Factory Reset, you will lose any settings you
have made.
Turn the DVR off.
Turn it on again.
While the DVR is initializing, poke a straightened paper clip in the unlabeled hole
to the right of the USB port.
Hold the switch until all the LEDs on the front panel are lit.
Note
When the DVR successfully resets to factory defaults all the
LEDs on the front panel flash three times.
Release the reset switch. All of the DVR settings are now at the original settings
it had when it left the factory.

Connect the DC power cord of the adapter to the DVR.
Connect the AC power cord to the adapter and then to the wall outlet.
