    To comply with the intra-building lightning surge requirements of GR-1089-CORE, Issue III, October Caution 2002, you must use a shielded cable when connecting to either of the Cisco AS5400XM universal gateway Ethernet ports. The cable must consist of shielded cable terminated by shielded connectors on both ends, with the cable shield material tied to both connectors.

    Connecting the Console Terminal and Modem Use the console terminal for local administrative access to the Cisco AS5400XM universal gateway. You can only connect a terminal to the console port. You can use the auxiliary port to connect a terminal or a modem for remote access.

    Configure your terminal or PC terminal emulation software for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and Step 2 2 stop bits. Connecting a Modem to the Auxiliary Port To connect a modem to the auxiliary port, follow these steps: Connect a modem to the auxiliary port using an RJ-45 rollover cable with an RJ-45-to-DB-25 adapter.

    Connect the alarm port only to a safety extra-low voltage (SELV) source using 22 AWG, or thicker, copper wire. SELV ratings are maximum 30 volts AC (RMS), maximum 60 volts DC, and maximum 50 VA power. The alarm port is rated for 2.0-amp maximum current.
