3 TAKING A READING

3.1 BEFORE YOU START

Set Zero; check that the measuring faces of the anvil are clean.
Release the knurled screw on the top left of the dial and turn the
scale until '0' lines up with the end of the long needle.

Position the upper and lower limit markers on the outer edge of the
dial as required.
3.2 USING THE ELCOMETER 124

Open the jaws using the lever at the top of
the dial.

Insert the sample between the anvils and
gently release the lever.

To calculate the thickness:

The long needle indicates small changes in
thickness, the short needle shows how
many complete revolutions have been
made by the long needle.

Multiply the number of complete
revolutions counted on the small
scale by the large scale value;
Metric: 200µm / Imperial: 10mil
Add the thickness indicated on
the large scale
