3-HFPROTECT for harshness reduction and HF transducer protection at high sound level.
The default selection is OFF. See the DEQ box below for a full description of Dynamic EQ behaviour.
FRONT LED (page 5/8)
This menu is used to set the front LED. Three different options can be selected:
OFF: the LED is always off.
ON: the LED is fixed GREEN when the loudspeaker is on.
SIGNAL/LIMIT: the LED flashes in GREEN colour to indicate the presence of signal and in RED colour to indicate that
the DSP is limiting the signal.
The default selection is SIGNAL/LIMIT.
LCD (page 6/8)
The menu is used to set the LCD CONTRAST. The contrast range is from 0 to 10 and the default value is 7.
INFO (page 7/8)
This page shows information about the loudspeaker model and the firmware version.

ABOUT DYNAMIC EQ (DEQ)

When a standard 'static' EQ boost is applied to a powered loudspeaker
equipped with a built-in limiter, the system's dynamic range, as well
as the maximum SPL, may be reduced. This is due to the fact that the
frequencies where the EQ boost has been applied reaches the limiter
threshold while most of the signal is still several dBs below, causing
the overall program to be limited with a significant dynamic reduction.
This is clearly visible in the figure STANDARD 'STATIC' EQ, where a 6 dB
boost is causing a dynamic loss of about 6 dB.
A Dynamic EQ is an equalizer that changes 'dynamically' its shape
according to the signal level. Using a DEQ we can modify the sound
also heavily at low and mid levels, while keeping the maximum
dynamics at high levels. As it can be seen in SOFTLOUD and MAXLOUD
figures, a high and low boost is applied to the program obtaining a
louder sound at low and mid levels. When the signal level increases,
the equalization is progressively reduced and this allows a full dynamic
range to be maintained at any level.
The SOFTLOUD and MAXLOUD DEQ presets can be used with great
benefit in combination with MUSIC and DJ presets, but they can be
useful also in some LIVE applications.
The HFPROTECT DEQ curve is flat at low and mid levels, but two EQ cuts
are applied to the MID-HI frequency region when the signal level gets
close to the LIMITER threshold, with two benefits:
- it reduces the sound harshness that occurs when the loudspeaker is
working at very high levels, producing a pleasant sound also in extreme
conditions;
- it protects the compression driver against damages due to possible
high level HF peaks.
The HFPROTECT DEQ preset can be used with great benefit in
combination with any of the system's preset when the loudspeaker is
used at a very high level.
