Carriage motor out-of-phase state detec-
tion mechanism
This mechanism, which detects abnormalities in the rota-
tion of the carriage motor, consists of the shutter plates
mounted on the carriage motor shaft, the carriage sensor
set, and the carriage sensor plate. The carriage sensor set
consists of an LED and a photo IC. The four shutter plates
on the carriage motor shaft are mounted at equal intervals.
When the carriage motor shaft rotates, the shutter plates
pass between the LED and the photo IC. The beam of light
is then interrupted, and the output level of the photo IC
changes. This change in the output level is read and used
as the carriage motor rotation detection signal.

Cut sheet detection mechanism

The cut sheet detection mechanism functions as a TOF
sensor that detects the top of the slip paper loaded from the
front of the printer, and as a BOF sensor that detects both
the presence of validation paper loaded from the top of the
printer and the bottom of the slip paper or validation paper
currently being printed. This sensor is located on the right
edge of the cut sheet path.
Figure 2-15. Cut Sheet Detection Mechanism
The cut sheet sensor consists of an LED and a
phototransistor. Because the beam of light between the
LED and the phototransistor is broken when the cut sheet
is inserted, the output level of the phototransistor changes.
This change is used as a cut sheet presence/absence
detection signal.
