ADSL ROUTER USER MANUAL 4.3.1 PPPoE(PPP over Ethernet) PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) provides access control and billing functionality in a manner similar to dial-up services using PPP. The router bridges a PPP session over Ethernet (PPP over Ethernet, RFC2516) from your computer to an ATM PVC (Permanent Virtual Circuit) which connects to ADSL Access Concentrator where the PPP session terminates.

NAPT extends the notion of NAT one step further by also translating the transport identifier (TCP and UDP port numbers, Enable NAPT ICMP query identifiers). This allows the transport identifiers of a number of private hosts to be multiplexed into the transport identifiers of a single public IP address.
