    The SC400/SC420 connects directly to the SAS ports on the back of the storage system. SC400/SC420 Expansion Enclosure Overview The SC400 is a 2U expansion enclosure that supports up to 12 3.5‐inch hard drives installed in a four‐ column, three-row configuration. The SC420 is a 2U expansion enclosure that supports up to 24 2.5‐inch hard drives installed vertically side by side.

    Dell Enterprise hard disk drives (HDDs) and Dell Enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) are the only drives that can be installed in SC400/SC420 expansion enclosures. If a non-Dell Enterprise drive is installed, the Storage Center prevents the drive from being managed.

    In addition, the hard drive indicator turns green in the Dell Storage Client. Replace the front bezel. In the Dell Storage Client, make sure that the replacement hard drive is recognized and shown as up and running. If the Dell Storage Client informs you that some hard drives are not assigned, see the Dell Storage Client Administrator’s Guide for instructions about managing unassigned hard drives.
