SC400/SC420 Expansion Enclosure Overview The SC400 is a 2U expansion enclosure that supports up to 12 3.5‐inch hard drives installed in a four‐ column, three-row configuration. The SC420 is a 2U expansion enclosure that supports up to 24 2.5‐inch hard drives installed vertically side by side.

Dell Enterprise hard disk drives (HDDs) and Dell Enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) are the only drives that can be installed in SC400/SC420 expansion enclosures. If a non-Dell Enterprise drive is installed, the Storage Center prevents the drive from being managed.
