5-4 Getting a GPS Fix

To get a GPS fi x, ensure that your receiver is positioned according to the guidelines in Section 4-1.
When you fi rst power on your GPS 4100 and program a route, it may take several minutes to get the fi rst GPS
fi x. You can minimize the amount of time that this takes by remaining stationary in your vehicle until the GPS 4100
has a position fi x. This is also important if the GPS 4100 has not had a fi x for four or more hours.
If GPS performance is consistently poor:
Review the installation instructions (see Section 4);
Check satellite reception from your third party navigation software.
