Introduction

This guide contains information about the Extron MPA 152 MD mini power amplifier
with instructions for experienced installers on how to install, configure, and operate the
equipment. Unless otherwise specified, references in this guide to the "amplifier" or "MPA"
relate to the features or operation of the MPA 152 MD.

MPA 152 MD Application Notes

Modern medical systems are increasingly composed of devices that allow for both local and
remote communications in order to provide essential services such as medical data transfer
between doctors and other support medical personnel or medical instruction to medical
students in a medical environment. These systems of devices require that the accessories
used with them meet the medical safety standards of "UL 60601-1, Medical Electrical
Equipment, Part 1: General Requirements for Safety" when they are used in areas such as
an operating room, examination room, or any area where medical patients and medical
personnel are present.
The MPA 152 MD device is an accessory to medical equipment that falls under the scope of
"UL 60601-1, Clause 2.1.3", since it qualifies as an optional component that can be deemed
necessary and suitable as part of medical equipment or with use as part of a medical system
to provide audio feeds in real time to those in the medical environments and in a remote
locations simultaneously. In this environment, the MPA 152 MD can be added to the system
ONLY if the connecting equipment has been evaluated with the equipment to meets the
