2. Remove the paper air fi lter element for inspection.
3. After removing the air fi lter element, most debris can
be removed by tapping it gently against a hard surface,
or brushing the surface lightly.
NOTE: A dirty air fi lter element will restrict air fl ow and
may result in damage to the engine. The life span of
the air fi lter element depends upon the environment in
which the product is used, and it should be inspected
and cleaned regularly and replaced when dirty.
Replacement
air fi lter elements can be ordered
through the Bunnings special orders desk. The

FUEL CAP
WARNING
A leaking fuel cap is a fi re hazard and must be replaced
immediately.
The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable fi lter and a
check valve. A clogged fuel cap will cause poor engine
performance. If performance improves when the fuel cap
is loosened, the check valve may be faulty or clogged.
Replace the fuel cap when required.
CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL
See fi gure 14.
The engine oil should be changed after every 25 hours of
use. Change the oil while the engine oil is still warm, but
not hot. This allows the oil to drain quickly and completely.
NOTE: Ensure the fuel tank is completely empty before
tipping the unit over otherwise fuel will leak.
1. Remove the oil fi ll cap/dipstick.
2. Tip the product onto its side and allow oil to drain from
the oil fi ll hole into an approved container.
3. Place the product upright and refi ll with oil following
the instructions in the Adding/Checking Oil section.
NOTE: Used oil should be disposed of at an approved
disposal site. See your local oil retailer for more
information.
SPARK PLUG MAINTENANCE
See fi gure 12.
The spark plug must be properly gapped and free of
deposits in order to ensure proper engine operation. To
check:
1. Remove the spark plug boot.
2. Clean any dirt from around base of spark plug.
3. Remove spark plug using a spark plug socket (not
provided).
4. Inspect spark plug for damage, and clean with a wire
brush before reinstalling. If insulator is cracked or
chipped, spark plug should be replaced.
NOTE: The recommended spark plug models is NGK
BPR6HS. Spark plug can be ordered through the
Bunnings Special orders desk. The Ryobi part number
for Australia and New Zealand is 30010Z0201200.
5. Measure plug gap. The correct gap is 0.028 − 0.031 in.
To widen gap, if necessary, carefully bend the ground
(top) electrode. To lessen gap, gently tap ground
electrode on a hard surface.
6. Seat the spark plug in position; thread in by hand to
prevent cross-threading.
7. Tighten with a wrench to compress the washer. If spark
plug is new, use 1/2 turn to compress the washer to
the appropriate amount. If reusing old spark plug, use
1/8 to 1/4 turn for proper washer compression.
NOTE: An improperly tightened spark plug will become
very hot and could damage the engine.
8. Reinstall spark plug boot.
