METAL DETECTING APPLICATIONS
Now that you have your Pioneer 101 in the All Metal Mode, you are ready to
approach your cache hunt. To properly cache hunt, you'll have to be thorough by
mapping out the probable area. Now, slowly and methodically dig up all repeat
signals to eliminate surface trash. This is part of the excavating process. After
doing this, you're now prepared for detecting larger, deeper objects. These may
be caches.

JEWELRY HUNTING:
Jewelry items are like coins, they can be found just about anywhere that people
have congregated in the past or present. To restrict your search to jewelry, you
must set your detector to eliminate most pull-tabs. Set your Discriminate control
at around 12:00 (halfway). The toggle switch should be in the right position
(TONE). With this setting, (if you're only digging the solid low and high tones, while
avoiding the broken, non-repeatable tones) , a large percentage of your gold
rings will be found and all of your silver rings will be found.
The main problem with hunting for gold rings is that you'll dig many "beaver tails"
(pull-tabs broken in half), pull-tabs, nickels, etc. before finding your first gold ring.
Only the low tone emitted by your Pioneer 101 will determine that you may have
encountered a gold ring. The odds are tremendously against you because of the
thousands of pull-tabs and "beaver tails" that are in your way which may also
induce a low tone. Even so, this should be looked upon as a challenge.
Gold chains, like gold rings, can also pose a problem when detecting. Chains are
the most difficult jewelry item to find. Small chains are next to impossible to
detect at any depth unless they are piled up. Silver items such as rings will induce
a high tone and are easier to find.

OTHER APPLICATIONS:
You will find your Pioneer 101 useful for finding property markers, machinery
parts, and lost keys as well as for other household applications. When using your
Pioneer 101 for these types of applications, you'll usually operate in the All Metal
Mode (toggle position in the center).
Gold prospecting is another application for your Pioneer 101. When gold
prospecting, be sure to operate in the All Metal Mode (Discriminate control
turned completely counterclockwise). Only dig those signals that are solid and
repeatable as you sweep. Be aware, smaller gold nuggets may not be detectable.
