If you do not know the water hardness in your area
and are unable to contact your local water board,
we advise you to descale the appliance every time
the 'CALC' message appears on the display.

To remove the 'CALC' message from the display,
press the 4-10 cups button and the STRENGTH
button simultaneously.
Open the water reservoir lid.

Fill the water reservoir with 7 cups of white
2
vinegar (5% acetic acid) and 3 cups of
water (Fig. 38).
Place a paper filter (no. 4) in the filter basket
3
and close the filter basket holder.
Put the empty thermos jug in the

appliance (Fig. 7).
Put the mains plug in the wall socket.

Set the on/off switch on the back of the
6
appliance to 'I' to switch on the appliance (Fig. 2).
The start/standby button and the display
light up.
Press the start/standby button (Fig. 8).

Press the pre-ground coffee button to switch
8
off the grinder. Then press the start/standby
button to start the brewing process. (Fig. 9)
Wait until half of the vinegar-water solution
9
has flowed into the jug. Then press the start/
standby button to stop the brewing process
and let the solution act for at least 15 minutes.
Press the start/standby button to switch the

coffeemaker back on and let the appliance
complete the brewing process.
Empty the thermos jug and throw away the
11
paper filter.
Fill the water reservoir with cold water
12
and press the start/standby button to
start another brewing process. Let the
coffeemaker complete the entire brewing
process and empty the jug.
Repeat step 12 until the water no longer
13
tastes or smells like vinegar.
Clean the filter basket, the permanent filter
14
and the jug with hot water and some
washing-up liquid.
Set the on/off switch on the back of
15
the appliance to 'O' to switch off the
appliance. (Fig. 29)
