Digital Signal Processor (DSP)
Input Selection
Sapphire III will accept audio input from either Dante™ or the analog inputs on the unit. The input selection
controls which set of signals are routed to the DSP and amplifier outputs. This selection is for all 4 channels
at one time, they cannot be "mixed and matched."

Dante™

Sapphire III features the Dante™ Ethernet Connectivity from Audinate. This allows audio to be streamed to
(and from) the Sapphire III amplifier using standard off-the-shelf Ethernet cables and network hardware.
Sapphire III implements Dante™ with 4-in/4-out audio and a control pipe to allow configuration of the DSP
and other features inside Sapphire III.
This manual is not intended to be a comprehensive introduction to Dante™, but rather will cover the steps
required to get Sapphire III up and running in a Dante™ network. The user will require these items to
complete the Dante™ set-up:
• Sapphire III amplifier.
• A PC or Mac with hardware/software requirements to run the Audinate Dante™ applications.
• Dante™ Controller application.
• Dante™ Virtual Soundcard application.
• Cat-5 Ethernet cable and any other switch or other Ethernet hardware to connect a network.
Connecting to the Dante™ network
Sapphire III includes 2 Ethernet ports. Either port can be used to connect to the Dante™ network. Two or
more Sapphire III units can be linked together in "Daisy-Chain" fashion no other configuration of the
Sapphire III is necessary.
Installing Dante™ Virtual Soundcard (DVS)
DVS runs on a host PC as a licensed third-party application. The latest version of DVS can be purchased at
www.audinate.com and please follow instructions from Audinate to complete the install. More user
information and FAQs are available from the Audinate website.
Installing Dante™ Controller
Dante™ Controller can be downloaded at www.audinate.com for free. Please follow the instructions on
the Audinate website to complete the installation, as well as for information on basic operation of the latest
software version and features, and user FAQs.
Using Dante™ controller
When DVS is installed, Sapphire III can be connected to the PC via a network cable to complete the audio
link. Start Dante™ Controller and within a short time, the host PC DVS driver will appear as a device on the
network, as will any Sapphire III amplifiers and other Dante™ devices connected to the network. Use the
routing matrix in Dante™ Controller to connect the desired channels between DVS and Sapphire III.
The host PC can be used as a signal source to supply audio to the Sapphire III. Media players, DAWs and
PC-based mixing/DJ software can be used via DVS. Routing the DVS "Transmitter" outputs to the Sapphire
III "Receiver" inputs will complete the connection and allow audio to be streamed to the amplifier(s).
Note that Sapphire III reports audio OUTPUTS (Transmitters) as well as inputs in Dante™ Controller. This allows
Sapphire III analog inputs to be used as a signal source on the Dante™ network, and these can be routed
to other Sapphire III or Dante™ devices. An example would be a small club where audio outputs from an
analog mixing console would be connected to a Sapphire III, and then the audio distributed to other
Sapphire III amplifiers within the venue to drive multiple sets of speakers in remote locations. Note that via
Dante™, multi-channel audio can be transmitted to remote amplifiers via Ethernet with no loss of audio
quality and very low latency.
