Cut your bagel into half and insert the two halves into the bread slots facing the centre of the
unit. Press the bagel function button (toasting on one side only), choose your desired browning
level and start the toasting cycle by pressing the raise/lower toast button. To stop the toaster
before it stops automatically, press the raise/lower toast button.
Do not touch any hot parts of the toaster during or immediately after use.
Toasted bread can be very hot, take care when handling it. Let it cool down or use pot-
holders.
If the toaster does not switch off automatically after a few minutes, press the stop button
and disconnect the power plug.
If you notice smoke coming out of the toaster, disconnect it from the power immediately.
Wait until the toaster has cooled down and take out any food that may still be inside the
toasting slot. Turn the toaster upside down over a sink and gently shake it to dislodge
any burnt crumbs. Empty and clean the crumb tray (see page 7).
Never attempt to remove bread jammed in the toasting slot without unplugging the
toaster from the electrical outlet first. Be sure not to damage the internal mechanism or
heating elements when removing bread.
Toasting is a combination of cooking and drying bread. As moisture levels differ from one bread
to another, toasting times can vary.
For slightly dry bread, use a lower browning setting.
For fresh bread or wholemeal bread, use a higher setting.
Breads with very uneven surfaces (such as English muffins) will require a higher setting.
Thickly cut pieces of bread will take longer to toast, sometimes significantly longer, since
more moisture must be evaporated from the bread before toasting can occur.
Before toasting bagels, slice each bagel into two equal halves. Then follow the
instructions above for using the bagel function for one-side toasting.
When toasting raisin or other fruit bread, remove any loose raisins from the surface of
the bread before placing the slices into the toaster. This will help prevent pieces from
falling into the toaster or sticking on the guard wire in the slot.
Single slice toasting: If you are toasting a single slice of bread, select a lighter browning
setting than usual. The toaster is designed to heat the whole toasting chamber for two
slices. By reducing the time for toasting a single slice, it will not be over-toasted.
Always disconnect the toaster from the power outlet and allow it to cool before cleaning
the toaster.
Wipe the outside surfaces with a soft, dry or slightly dampened cloth. Never use a metal
scouring pad, abrasive materials or metal polish on any surface. Do not use any
aggressive cleaning agents and/or other hard objects to clean the appliance.
Clean the crumb tray regularly to avoid a build-up of crumbs. If the toaster is used
frequently, remove the accumulated bread crumbs at least once a week.
Pull the crumb tray out from the side of the toaster opposite the controls. Empty it and
wipe the tray with a slightly damp cloth. To remove stubborn spots, use a nylon or plastic
scouring pad dampened in soapy water and squeezed almost dry.
Dry the crumb tray thoroughly before sliding it back into position. Ensure that the tray is
fully slotted back into place before operating the toaster.
When the toaster is not being used, wind the power cord neatly away around the hooks
underneath the toaster.
