Problem
Pictures are blurred
Bright specks appear in pictures
taken with flash
Flash does not fire
Optical zoom cannot be used
Digital zoom cannot be used
[Image mode] not available
No sound when shutter is
released
AF-assist illuminator does not

Pictures appear smeared
Colors are unnatural
Randomly spaced bright pixels
("noise") appear in image
Cause/Solution
• Use flash.
• Use anti-shake mode.
• Use A.
• Use tripod and self-timer.
Flash is reflecting off particles in air. Turn
flash off.
Flash is off. Note that flash turns off
automatically in T modes other than
[Time-lapse movieA] and [Stop-motion
movie], some scene modes, when [Con-
tinuous] or [Multi-shot 16] is selected for
[Continuous], or when option other than
[Off] is selected for [BSS].
Optical zoom cannot be used while
recording movies.
Digital zoom is not available in assist
modes, or when [Multi-shot 16] is
selected for [Continuous].
[Image mode] cannot be adjusted when
[Multi-shot 16] is selected for [Continu-
ous].
• [Off] is selected for [Sound settings] >
[Shutter sound] in setup menu.
• P or T mode is selected, option
other than [Single] is selected for
[Continuous], or option other than
[Off] is selected for [BSS].
• [Off] is selected for AF assist option in
camera setup menu.
• AF-assist illuminator turns off auto-
matically in some modes.
Lens is dirty. Clean lens.
White balance does not match light
source.
Shutter speed too slow. Noise can be
reduced by:
• Using flash
• Fixing the sensitivity
• Choosing scene mode with noise reduction
