Maintenance and Adjustment

Engine Oil

In order for the engine, transmission, and
clutch to function correctly, maintain the
engine oil at the correct level, and change the
oil and oil filter in accordance with scheduled
maintenance requirements.
Warning
Motorcycle operation with insufficient,
deteriorated, or contaminated engine oil
will cause accelerated engine wear and
may result in engine or transmission
seizure.
Seizure
of
the
transmission may lead to sudden loss of
control and an accident.

Ensure no foreign matter or contamination
enters the engine during an oil change or
top-up. Contamination entering the engine
may lead to engine damage.
Start the engine and let it idle for five
minutes. Stop the engine and wait three
minutes.
Carefully clean the area around the filler
cap/dipstick before removal.
Remove the filler cap/dipstick from the
crankcase, wipe the dipstick clean and refit
the filler cap/dipstick, screwing it fully home.

The actual level is indicated when
the motorcycle is upright, (not on
the side stand) and when the filler
cap/dipstick is fully home.
Remove the filler cap/dipstick.
The maximum oil level is indicated by a mark
on the filler cap/dipstick. When the oil level is
correct, the indicated oil level must be
between the maximum and minimum lines
on the dipstick.
If the oil level is too low, add oil a little at a
time until the correct level is reached.
Once the correct level is reached, install the
filler cap/dipstick.
