12.2. Error Messages-Display

If the unit detects a problem, one or more of the following messages will appear on the display.
The explanations given in the [ ] are for servicemen only. Refer to Translation Lists (P.10) for display.
• There is something wrong with the unit.
[This error is displayed when the thermal head does not
warm up. Check the thermistor on the thermal head and
connector lead.]
• The document was not fed into the unit properly. Re-insert
the document. If misfeeding occurs frequently, clean the
document feeder rollers and try again.
(Refer to Document Feeder/Scanner Glass Cleaning
(P.150).)
• Attempted to send a document longer than 600 mm. Press
[STOP] to remove the document. Divide the document into
two or more sheets and try again.
[Alternately, turn off service code #559 to enable sending of
documents longer than 600 mm] (Refer to Service Function
Table (P.60).)
• The cover is open. Close it and press [FAX/START] to clear
the message.
• The unit has run out of recording paper. Install recording
paper and press [FAX/START] to clear the message.
• The unit has a document in memory. See the other dis-
played message instructions to print out the document. For
fax memory capacity, see Specifications (P.9).
• The memory is full of received documents due to lack of
recording paper or a recording paper jam. Install paper or
clear the jammed paper. (Refer to Recording Paper Jams
(P.149.)
• When performing broadcast transmission, the document
being stored exceeded the memory capacity of the unit.
Send the entire document manually.
• There is no space to store new items in the phonebook.
Erase unnecessary items.
• Your TAM/FAX greeting message is not recorded. Record a
message.
• The voice guidance feature is set to off. Activate feature #47
on Program Mode Table (P.94).
Prerecorded greeting message will be adopted.
• There is no memory available to record voice messages.
Erase unnecessary messages.
• There is something wrong with the unit's modem.
[Refer to #554 on Test Mode (P.55) and check the Digital
board section. (Digital Board Section (P.107).)]
• The other party's fax machine is busy or has run out of
recording paper. Try again.
• A recording paper jam occurred. Clear the jammed paper.
(Refer to Recording Paper Jams (P.149).)

Make sure the paper stacker is inserted (KX-FT984/KX-
FT988 only).
• The unit is checking and initializing the paper. Wait for a
moment while the check is completed.
• The greeting message or memo message you recorded was
under 1 second long. Record a longer message.
• The other party's fax machine is busy or has run out of
recording paper. Try again.
The document is jammed. Remove the jammed document.
(Refer to Document Jams Sending (P.150).)
• Press [STOP] to eject the jammed document.
