• Do notallowplasticobjects,sugar,orfoodswithhighsugarcontentto meltontothe
hotcooktop. Meltedmaterialscancausepermanentdamagetothe cooktop. Ifyou
accidentally meltanythingontothe cooktop,ora sugarysolutionboilsover, remove
it immediately whilethe cooktopisstillhot. Carefully,usea singleedge razorblade
heldwitha pot holderto scrapethe melted materialor sugaryboiloverto a cooler
area ofthe cooktop. Useseverallayersofpapertoweltowipe upthespillover, b eing
careful notto bum yourself. When the element has cooled,use the razor blade to
scrapeoffthe remainingsoiland cleanas you wouldfor heavyspills. (See p. 16.)
• Do notuse aluminumfoil orfoil-typecontainersunderany circumstances.Alumi-
numfoilwilldamagethe cooktopifit meltsontothe glass. If metalmeltsoncooktop,
do notuse. Call an authorizedJenn-Air ServiceContractor.
• Do not use the glass-ceramiccooktopas a cuttingboard.
• Do NOT useabrasivecleansingpowdersorscouringpads(including metalscouring
pads), whichwill scratchthe cooktop.
• Do NOT use chlorine bleach, ammonia, rust removers, oven cleaners, or other
cleanser notspecificallyrecommendedfor use on glass-ceramic.
• Make sure bottomsof cookpotsare always cleanand dry. (Soil fromthe cookpot
bottomcan be transferredto the cooktopsurface.) Before usingcookpotson the
glass-ceramiccooktop for the first time, and periodicallyas needed, clean the
bottomswith scouringpads or other cleansers. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
• Make it a practiceto wipe cooktopsurface witha clean damp clothor papertowel
beforeeachuse; dry thoroughly.Invisible spatters,dustspecks,cleansersorwater
can cause stainsthat appear after unit is heated. A spongeor dishclothwhich is
notcleanwill leave film and soilladen detergentwater whichmay cause stainson
surface after area is heated.
• When frying, use a spatter shield to reducespattering.
• Use correctcontrolsettingsand cookware largeenoughto holdfood and liquidto
prevent boilovers and spattering.
• If a bad spillover occurswhilecooking,spillsmaybe cleanedfromthe cooktopwhile
it is hotto prevent a tough cleaningchorelater. Usingextreme care, wipe with a
clean damptowel. Be carefulto avoid bumsfromsteam or handstouchingthe hot
cooktop.
