If the intercom function on the AT&T 974 does not work, check the following:

1. Ensure the "One touch preference" is set to INTERCOM. To do this:
- Press E to begin feature setup.
- Press E again.
- Use < or > to select INTERCOM.
- Press - to save the setting.

2. Make sure you press the INTERCOM (I) button if the preference is set to TELEPHONE.

3. Verify that the other extension is not set to Do Not Disturb (DND), as it will not receive intercom calls.

4. Confirm both phones are connected to Line 1, as intercom only works between extensions on Line 1.
