Introduction

The RZT-S Zero has a 48 volt electrical system. This system is an isolated or "fully floating" system. This means
that the electrical system is not grounded to the chassis and is insulated from the non-electrical components of the
mower.
A 48 volt electrical system is considered an electrical shock hazard as defined by Underwriters Laboratories (UL
1447):
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK (Including Startle Reaction) - For the purpose of these require-
ments, a risk of electric shock is considered to exist in any accessible part of a system if a
potential greater than the following exists: 15 volts sinusoidal ac, 21.2 volts peak for non-sinu-
soidal ac, 30 volts DC, or 12.4 volts DC interrupted at a rate of 10 - 200 Hz.
The shock hazard rating means that the mower must be constructed in such a way as to prevent the consumer
from having easy access to the batteries or any of the electrical wiring. To be compliant with this requirement, there
are covers over the batteries and wires. In addition, there are baffles under the body pods to prevent access to the
wiring and control panel.

System operation

The electrical system on the RZT-S Zero differs from that of a traditional Cub Cadet mower in three major ways:
1. 48 volt system versus the standard 12 volt system traditionally used by Cub Cadet.
2. The electrical system is insulated from the frame, meaning there are no grounds.
3. A central computer controlled system versus individual circuits. See Figure 5.1.
