Changing the Focusing Area (= area)
When = (Standard), q (Macro), or
focus mode, you can change the autofocus area (Focusing Area).

Press the four-way controller (5).
The pull-down menu appears.

Use the four-way controller (23) to change the
Focusing Area.

Press the 4 button.
The setting is saved.

Press the 3 button twice.
The camera returns to capture mode.
• In C (Movie),
modes, W cannot be selected.
• In S (Fireworks), 9 (Green) and b (Auto Picture) modes, the
focusing area is fixed at J.

The camera measures a wide area in the center of the monitor
(within the focusing area) and focuses on the nearest subject.
The camera measures a narrow area in the center of the
monitor (the spot focusing area) making it easier for you to
focus on a specific subject.
The camera holds focus on the moving subject while you are
pressing the shutter release button halfway.
(Underwater Movie), and N (Frame Composite)
(1cm Macro) is selected as the
