    Getting Started Attaching the Strap Attach the strap (O-ST20) supplied with the camera. Pass the narrow end of the strap through the strap lug. Pass the other end of the strap through the loop and pull tight.

    Connect the AC plug cord to the battery charger D-BC8. Plug the AC plug cord into the power outlet. Place the battery in the charger so that the PENTAX logo is visible. The charging indicator lights red while the battery is charging and changes to green when charging is finished.

    Recorded Pixels and Quality Level of Still Pictures Choose the number of pixels (size) and quality level (data compression rate) of still pictures according to how you intend to use the pictures you have taken. Higher quality levels and numbers of pixels produce clearer images for printing, but the resulting increase in data volume reduces the total number of pictures that can be stored in the camera’s built-in memory or on the SD Memory Card.

    Turning the Camera On and Off Press the power switch. The camera turns on. If the Initial Setting screen or Date Adjust screen appears when you turn the camera on, follow the procedure on p.36 to set the display language and/or current date and time. Press the power switch again.

    Playback Only Mode Use this mode when you want to play back an image or sound file straightaway without taking any more pictures. Pressing the shutter release button does not change the mode to A mode. Press the power switch while holding down the Q button.

    The standard procedure for taking still pictures is described below. The flash fires automatically depending on the light conditions. Press the power switch. The Panorama Assist mode enables you to overlap the edges of the images so that they are easier to join together later into a panorama picture.
