6 TROUBLESHOOTING

Phenomenon
Paper misfeeds.
Multiple feeding occurs.
 Image trouble
Phenomenon
The copy image is light.
The copy image is dark.
The copied image is stained.
The copy image is fogged.
The copy image is partially
missing.
The copy image has black
streaks in a horizontal direction.

Before Calling Service Technician
Usual cause
The paper is unsuited for the
equipment.
The paper size is not registered
properly in the equipment.
Misfed paper is located in a place
you cannot see easily.
There is no gap between the side
guides and paper in the drawer,
or the gap is too wide.
Sheets of paper clinging to each
other.
Usual cause
Toner has run out.
The copy density is set lighter.
The copy density is set darker.
The platen cover or the Automatic
Document Feeder is not lowered
fully.
The original glass or platen sheet
is dirty.
The copy density is set darker.
Highly transparent originals such
as overhead transparencies or
tracing paper are used.
There is a slight gap between the
original glass and the original.
The paper is damp.
The size or direction of the paper
and the original, or the
reproduction ratio is not set
properly.
The charger is dirty.
Countermeasure
Check if the paper is acceptable.

Register the paper size properly.

See the message on the LCD screen to recheck the position
where the paper misfeed has occurred.

Adjust the gap between the side guides and the paper
properly.

Fan the paper well and place it again.
Countermeasure
Replace the toner cartridge if the "TONER EMPTY" message
appears on the LCD screen.

Make the density darker if you use the manual copy density
mode.
Make the density lighter if you use the manual copy density
mode.
Lower it fully to block outside light.
Clean them.

Make the density lighter if you use the manual copy density
mode.
Place a blank plain sheet of paper, the same size as the
original or larger, over the original.
Lower the platen cover or the Automatic Document Feeder
fully so that the original will contact with the original glass.
Replace with dry paper.
Use paper of the same size as the original or set the
reproduction ratio suitable to the paper size.
Clean the charger.
