• Do notallowplastic objects,sugar,or foodswith highsugar contentto melt ontothe
hctcooktop. Melted materials can cause permanent damage to the cooktop. Ifyou
accidentally melt anythingonto the cooktop, or a sugary solution boils over, remove
it immediately while the cooktop is still hot. Carefully, use a single edge razor blade
held with a pot holder to scrape the melted material or sugary boilover to a cooler
area of the cooktop. Use several layers of paper towel to wipe up the spillover, being
careful not to bum yourself. When the element has cooled, use the razor blade to
scrape off the remaining soil and clean as you would for heavy spills. (See p. 16.)
• Do not use aluminum foil or foil-type containers under any circumstances. Alumi-
num foil will damage the cooktop if it melts onto the glass. If metal melts on cook'top,
do not use. Call an authorized Jenn-Air Service Contractor.
• Do not use the glass-ceramic cooktop as a cutting board.
• Do NOT use abrasive cleansing powders or scouring pads (including metal scouring
pads), which will scratch the cooktop.
• Do NOT use chlorine bleach, ammonia, rust removers, oven cleaners, or other
cleanser not specifically recommended for use on glass-ceramic.
• Make sure bottomsof cookpotsare always clean and dry. (Soil from the cookpot
bottomcan be transferredto the cooktopsurface.) Before usingcookpotson the
glass-ceramiccooktopfor the first time, and periodicallyas needed, clean the
bottomswith scouringpads or othercleansers. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
• Make it a practiceto wipe cooktopsurface with a clean damp cloth or paper towel
beforeeachuse; drythoroughly.Invisible spatters,dustspecks,cleansersorwater
cancause stainsthat appear after unit is heated. A sponge or dishcloth which is
notclean willleave filmand soilladen detergentwater whichmay causestainson
surfaceafter area is heated.
• Whenfrying, use a spatter shield to reducespattering.
• Use correctcontrolsettingsand cookwarelarge enoughto holdfood and liquidto
preventboiloversand spattering.
• If a badspillover occurswhilecooking, s pillsmay be cleanedfromthe cooktop while
it is hot to preventa toughcleaningchorelater. Using extreme care, wipe with a
clean damptowel. Be carefulto avoidbumsfromsteam or handstouchingthe hot
cooktop.
