Cleaning
your
refrigerator
Outside
The water and ice dispenser
spill shelf shouldbe wipeddry
immediately to preventspotting.
Waterlefton the shelf may leave
depositsthatyoucan removeby
soakingwith undilutedvinegar.
Youcan afsousea pasteof non-
precipitating watersoftener(such
as Calgonbrand)and water,or one
teaspoonof citricacid powderper
pintof hottap water.Soak untilthe
depositdisappearsor becomes
looseenoughto rinseaway.
Usually30 minutessoakingtime
isadequate.Avoidusingwax on
the spillshelfand trim.
The door handles and trim can
be cleanedwith a clothdampened
witha solutionof mildliquid
dishwashing detergentand water.
Drywitha softcloth.Don'tusewax
onthe doorhandlesand trim.
Keepthe finish clean. Wipe with
a cleanclothlightlydampened
withkitchenappliancewax or mild
liquiddiswashingdetergent.Dry
and polishwitha clean, softcloth.
Do notwipethe refrigerator witha
soileddishwashingclothorwet
towel.These may leave a residue
thatcan erodethe paint. Do not
usescouringpads,powdered
cleaners,bleachor cleaners
containingbleachbecausethese
products can scratchand weaken
the paintfinish.
Protect the paint finish.
The finishon the outsideofthe
refrigerator is a highquality,
baked-onpaintfinish.With proper
care, itwillstaynew-lookingand
rust-free foryears.Applya coatof
kitchen/appliance wax whenthe
refrigerator is new and then at
leasttwicea year.

Inside the fresh food and freezer
compartments shouldbe cleaned
at leastonce a year.Unplugthe
refrigeratorbeforecleaning. If this
is notpractical,wringexcess
moistureoutof spongeor cloth
when cleaningaroundswitches,
lightsor controls.
Use warm waterand bakingsoda
solution—about a tablespoonof
bakingsodato a quartof water.
This bothcleansand neutralizes
odors.Rinsethoroughlywithwater
and wipe dry.

bin and all plasticparts-can be
cleanedthe same way.Do not use
cleansingpowdersor other

compartment. Duringyearly
cleaning,removebottomfreezer
basketand flusha solutionof
bakingsoda (oneteaspoon)and
twocupsof hot(notboiling)water
throughthe drain linewith the help
of a meat baster.Thiswill help
eliminateodorand reducethe
likelihoodof a cloggeddrain line.

can be damaged, particularly

refrigerator straightout and return
it to positionby pushingit straight
in. Movingyourrefrigeratorin a
side directionmay resultin
damage to yourfloorcovering
or refrigerator.

Formostefficientoperation,
removethe base grille(see page 4)
and removethe defrostwater pan,
then eithersweep awayor vacuum
up dustthat is readilyaccessible.
This easy cleaningoperation
shouldbe done at leastonce a
year.
