Face detection

When the Face Detection AF function is used, the focus can be set around a person's face when taking a portrait
shot. This function can also be quite useful when using self-shot.

Normal face detection

When the Face Detection AF option is used, the auto
focus can be set based on the face.
When the shooting composition is set, the camera
automatically detects as many as 10 faces and sets the
focus and exposure.
In Shooting mode, press [MENU].

The focus frame is
shown by white for
the closest face and
by gray for the rest of
faces.
• Face detection may not be effective when.
- When the subject is too far
- When it is too bright or dark
- When the subject is not facing to the front
- When part of the face is hidden by an object
like sunglasses.
- When one makes a large facial expression
- When the light or backlight shown on the face is not
uniform
- Depending on the Picture Wizard option, the subject's
face may not be recognized.
• The options may differ depending on the
shooting mode.
• This function can not be used when having set
the options such as, manual focus and selection
AF.
• The face detection function works faster when
the camera is closer to the subject.
• When the Face Detection AF function is used,
the white focus area is automatically set to
focus.
