3 Troubleclearing
3.1 Overview on troubleclearing procedures
Corrective Maintenance (or Troubleshooting) involves the detection, location, and correction of failures in
the equipment, as well as the replacement of the defective parts.
These troubleshooting procedures are carried out with the aid of some flowcharts and tables, which follow.
This method does not deal with the following aspects:
•
Faulty electronic alarm indication, processing and detection circuits
•
Faulty wiring (back-panel, connectors, etc.)
Maintenance can be done:
•
From a TMN network management center (see section
•
From a Remote Craft Terminal (RCT) management center (see section
3.1.1 TMN network management center
By means of the TMN, the maintenance technician can see the alarms sent by the equipment of the managed
network (see the relevant TMN handbooks).
3.1.2 Remote Craft Terminal (RCT) management center
The operator, connected to a local NE, can remotely manage and troubleshoot a network composed of 32
NEs, maximum, including itself.
3.1.2.1 General information on LED indications
The Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-320) equipment is provided with LEDs which indicate
the following:

Unit Alarms
Each unit and PIMs equipped in the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-320 are provided with a bicolor LED
(green/red) and/or a multi color LED (green/red/orange) indicating the status of the unit.
•
Bicolor LED generally indicates:
–
When red: internal failure (indicates that the unit concerned must be replaced)
–
When green: in-service unit
