Removing the system board

To remove the system board, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii, "Installation guidelines" on
page 69, and "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 70.
2. Turn off the server, and disconnect all power cords and external cables; then,
remove the server cover (see "Removing the cover" on page 72).
3. Remove the riser-card assembly with adapters, and place them on a
static-protective surface for reinstallation (see "Removing an adapter" on page
74).
4. (Hot-swap model only) Remove the SAS/SATA controller (see "Removing the
SAS/SATA controller" on page 94) and place it on a static-protective surface for
reinstallation.
5. Remove all DIMMs, and place them on a static-protective surface for
reinstallation (see "Removing a memory module (DIMM)" on page 80).
6. Disconnect all cables from the system board.
7. Remove the microprocessor heat exchanger assembly and microprocessor;
then, place them on a static-protective surface for reinstallation (see
"Removing the microprocessor" on page 96).
8. Note the orientation of the microprocessor retention module.
9. Unscrew the four screws that hold the microprocessor retention module to the
system board; then, lift the retention module out of the server.
