The Density Code field defines the tape fonnat the Viper drive either writes or recognizes in
a READ command. Density Codes and Interpretations are shown.

5.21.5.2 Implicit Mode - Default Density Code Mode
In READ Operation, the drive does a fonnat search at BOT to detennine the fonnat of the
installed tape. The search sequence proceeds as follows:
1. QIC-150
2. QIC-120
3. QIC-24
4. QIC-ll
In WRITE Operation, the drive detennines the cartridge type and selects the highest appro-
priate capacity as shown.
