Netware
Novell's LAN operating system. NetWare runs on many different hardware platforms
and network configurations.
Parallel Interface
With this interface, data transfer between the printer and the computer takes place
in 8-bit chunks. The printer can perform IEEE1284 compatible bi-directional
communications.
POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3)
This is the current version of the Post Office Protocol standard in common use on
TCP/IP networks. See also Post Office Protocol, TCP/IP.
PostScript
This is a page description language developed by Adobe Systems, Inc. It enables
flexible font functions and highly-functional graphics, allowing higher quality printing.
The initial version of PostScript which was introduced in 1985 is currently referred to
as Level 1. Level 2, which was compatible with color printing and such 2-byte
languages as Japanese, was introduced in 1990 while Level 3, which added
compatibility to PDF and other formats, was brought out in 1996.
PPM (prints per minute)
This indicates the number of prints in one minute depending on a specific paper size.
Printer Driver
The printer driver makes it possible for you to print data created using application
software. The printer driver for the printer is contained on the CD-ROM supplied with
the printer. Install the printer driver on the computer connected to the printer.
Process Unit
This is the module that contains photosensitive drum and developer unit.
Scan Noise Reduction
If black lines appear on copies when you feed originals from the document processor
(but they do not exist on the originals themselves), this function will make them less
apparent.
Scan to e-mail
This is a function for sending scan data files to registered or entered e-mail
addresses.
SMB (Server Message Block)
The protocol which actualizes file sharing and printer joint ownership with such as
Windows NT and Windows 95/98 via network. NetBIOS is used as a subordinate
protocol. It is the application software which is used from LAN Manager of MS-DOS
age. If the software, Samba was used, it is possible to offer the service which used
SMB at UNIX.
