Invert the co m p ressor and p lace the shaft end
up on the bench with the internal assem bly
support block resting on the bench.
Im p o rta n t
To prevent d am a g in g the shaft, do not
tap on the end of the com pressor shaft
to rem ove the internal m ech an ism . If the
m ech an ism will not slide out of the co m ­
pressor shell, tap on the front head with
a plastic ham m er.

• Rest the com pressor shell (9) on its side and
push the fronthead assem b ly (16) through the
shell (9).
• Tap on the outside of the front head (16) with a
plastic h am m er to overcom e the friction of the
seal (17) b etw een the fronthead (16) and the
shell (9).
• Pry with a screw driver betw een the casting
(29) and the cover.
• N u m b er the piston and the piston bores with
the sa m e num bers so the pistons can be in­
stalled in their bores (figure 23).
• S ep a rate the cylinders (29 and 42) with a
block of wood and a m allet (figure 24).
• Do not let the d isch arge cross-over tube (26)
touch the axial plate (39).
• Do not strike the shaft at either end to s e p a ­
rate the upper and lower cylinder halves b e ­
cause the shaft (39) can be d am a g e d .

• Place parts in J 94 02 .
• P lace the pistons (32) in J 9 4 0 2 with the notch
in the casting w eb at the front end of th e pis­
ton into the dim pled groove of the J 9 4 0 2 (fig­
ure 25).
