6 To view the directory of an RI tape later, insert the
tape and press INDEX Plus+. The screen from step
1 appears. Press 2, then input the Tape Number.
(Be careful not to input an incorrect Tape Number.)
NOTES:
If the tape has been recorded over several times,
Index Marks may remain and RE-INDEX/SCAN may
not be successful. Erase the Index Marks manually
(refer to pg. 20 of the HR-IP820U instruction manual.)
If Retroactive Indexing is unsuccessful, "FAILURE"
appears on screen in step 3. Re-perform the
procedure from step 1.
Retroactive Indexing may occasionally be
unsuccessful, depending on the condition of the tape.

Consolidating Program Names

If the tape you want to index contains Index Marks in
locations other than the start points of the programs, a
"ghost" program may appear on the directory. If this
should happen, consolidate the names according to
the procedure that follows.
Procedure
1 After step 3 on page 22 (under "Retroactive
Indexing"), press CANCEL.
2 The next screen looks
like this:
Select the programs to be consolidated using the
CURSOR button (VOL +/–). (If you're consolidating,
for example, programs 2 and 3, place the cursor next
to program 3.) Then press CLEAR.

Press F2 and then 1.
Using the DIGIT and
CURSOR buttons (VOL
+/–, REW, FF), input the
program name.
Press INDEX Plus+ and the normal screen reappears.
NOTE: If you consolidate programs that were recorded
at different tape speeds (SP/EP), – – appears. The
program time is calculated as though the program
were recorded entirely in EP mode.

Uploading A Directory

You can load the directory of a tape which you
previously removed from your library, or of a tape
recorded on another INDEX Plus+ VCR, into your
VCR's memory.
Preparation
1. Turn on the power to the TV and the VCR.
2. Set the TV to the channel or mode appropriate for
video playback.
3. Insert the tape with the directory you want to
load/reload.
Procedure
1 Press INDEX Plus+. The
screen to the right
appears (if the library is
empty, FIND is
replaced by
RESTORE):
Press ENTER. If the tape was not at the beginning,
the VCR automatically rewinds it to that point before
starting its search for programs.
