7. Optics unit

1) Construction of optics unit
• The optics unit consists of the exposure lamp (Xenon lamp), lens, CCD sensor,
laser scanning unit (LSU) and reflector mirrors mounted on scanning
assemblies.
• While moving the full-speed unit and the half speed unit with the optics motor,
the exposure lamp illuminates the original. The reflected light from the original
is projected through the lens and put on the CCD image sensor which converts
light signals into electric signals.
When the light signals are converted into electronic signals, the image of the
original is changed to an electronic signal of the picture element which
corresponds to image density.
• This electronic signal (analog signal) is converted to digital signal by the CCD
control PCB, then sent to image processing circuit in the main CPU PCB.
• The laser beam, which corresponds to image data, forms the latent image on
the drum by turning on and off.
When the laser beam is on the charge on the drum is removed.
